The Dawn of The Morning Glory

In 2005, 44 Gelcon Ave Greendale, That Squad Studio, is where I first met Jnr Brown. He was a Hip Hop/Dancehall artist working on the unreleased "Bad Boys of Chamhembe" with Tatenda "Take 5" Jenami, Batsi Musuka and John now known as "King" Ngugi. During this period the artists that were working with this team were Trinity, Jabulani "Jay Boss" Hove, Lady Thanda, Sharon, Cindy, XQ, Stunner, Tricky T, Roki, Tererai and Mafriq. Of all the artists that where around at the time Stunner was hot with his song "Dhaf Korera," Trinity had just released their only "ini iye naye" and Roki was working on "Chidzoka" however 2 artists caught my attention above all of these "popular" artists  and achievements. They were little known Jnr Brown and Jay Boss and their album  "The Bad Boys" was on it's way.

The Bad Boys of Chamhembe to me was a combination of all the boys that were based at That Squad Studio going hard on music, ridding riddims collaborating and showing what they were made of. Queued up where some of the best songs Take 5 has ever produced. J-Brown brought what at the time I , uneducated in hip hop, thought was humor to his music and his vernacular ability topped with  Jay Bosses lyrical ability brought the studio to a halt with lyrics like "5 meter just for one night, usaita seune gambi rakagadzirwa ne NIKE" . "King" Ngugi corrected my perception and redirected it from humor to straight poetry and talent  as he dubbed Jnr as the king of the punchline.

Skip a few episodes, the bad boys was not released.

The failure to release the album kept a lot of people curious on what would be next from Jnr Brown. In the mean time Jnr Brown has been producing and writing songs for himself and other renowned artists, with some songs staying on the top of the charts for a long time. He worked on the Zim Imagination album with Kae Mate which led to his collaboration with MC Chita in 2010 "Kings Rendezvous" which won an award at the 2011 Hip Hop awards.

To cut this long story short, I have waited for 7 years for Jnr Brown to release his album and he says it will be here soon on a project he will call The Morning Glory. He recently released a single from the album "Madrinks" (See link below) which has gotten hip hop loving Zimbabweans talking.

This video above is a clip of Jnr in his rawest form doing what he does best "punchlines"

Enjoy
