Chioniso + Tsungi + Baba Shupi = Greatness
Chiwoniso Maraire, arguably Zimbabwe's longest surviving diva's and well celebrated female artists. When we talk Zimbabwean music dynasties, we mention the Manatsa's, Mtukudzi's, Mujurus and included on the list will be the Maraire family. Daughter of the late great Dumisani Maraire, Chiwoniso has perfected the art of being a great performer and composer. Thenextowne has had the privilege to see Chi deliver great performances on a global stage and can simply say she is nothing short of amazing.
Tsungi Zvobgo, passionate, supporting, organised, and involved. Tsungi has proved to be one of the best working in the past with musicians like Alexio Kawara and Andy Brown. Her current portfolio includes Chiwoniso Maraire, Peace Ndlovu and Tehn Diamond
Peace Ndlovu a.k.a Baba Shupi, Zimbabwe's golden boy. Thenextowne has often been quoted for saying Zimbabweans can only sell Zimbabwe to the world. Peace is a perfect example of how to package Zimbabwe and sell it to the international market. The young man has made waves where many have doubted him with performances at HIFA, Miss Harare, Miss Zimbabwe and apparently he rocked the Zahara show in Harare more than the Zahara herself. His journey has definatly begun and all I can confirm is, this boy is flying in the right direction
A combination of the three brings a brilliant feel to the traditional feel of Zimbabwean music. This video is an example of how Baba Shupi and Chi, come together for an impromptu performance, using traditional shona song "Chaminuka" as their chorus. Backed by the A-Team on the instrumental.
Enjoy
