Alexio Kawara, a Legend in the Making

Alexio Kawara, legend in the making. Who ever thought when he was singing  "ndichakutengera leather sofa" that was only a step in his journey. From a more personal point of view, I thought he was a one minute man, destined for one hit success and would be stuck in an office like MR. @%#$ Gomo and David Chi@&$#@). How wrong I was. This young man through his music has over the last 3 years given me a new family, Thursday Babies I call them or like he calls us "Vana Vechina."

I rated many musicians above him including Ngoni Kambarami, XQ and a whole lot of artists that made noise and topped the charts with songs on the Chamhembe compilations. Little did I know that while "Mhepo yaibva kuchamhembe" or the wind was blowing from the south, Alexio was growing from being Kawara to VaKawara maturing into the great musician he is today. He shocked Zimbabwe when he came back on to the scene with "Shaina" which finally caught my attention and that of Zimbabwe and landed Alexio the recognition that most people had not given him.

Thenextowne was privileged to attend the launch of Alexio's Tose. Right before my eyes I saw VaKawara take his place as a fine wine that had matured or put simply as "high grade chamba." in the words of one of Zimbabwe's finest "shanda mwana," rwendo rwurefu, asi tichafamba newe.

This clip shows a great performance. From my favorite Alexio Kawara album, this is the coolest Alexio song ever. I have dubbed it the "small house anthem," this is "Newe"

Enjoy
