Famai Zvakanaka Gwenyambira - My Eulogy to Chiwoniso Maraire

Since I finished high school, I never missed a show of yours ku book cafe. I would come and be the only teen black young man in the crowd singing along. I loved how you connected with the crowd and gave a world class performance no matter what the size of the crowd looked like. I thank God for the friendship we had and the few times we got to hang. I will always remember Belgium with Smoove Barney and Mucha. I will always remember in Gunhill with Alice, Webber and Mr Mujuru tichiridza mbira as you were drinking wine preparing for a show the next day. I will always remember you introducing me to Chengeto and Chiyedza "say hi, this is my friend Kuda." I will always remember the first time I saw you perform with Baba Shupi and the shock on my face when I realised that you were performing an unwritten song.

I will always remember the last show of yours I attended when you supported young blessing Chimanga together with Tariro, Dudu and the children.

I will miss your smile as I walk into the book Cafe wakagara na Tsungi drinking wine and I will miss the Chiwoniso trademark greeting, kiss on the cheek. I will miss the lectures on how we as fans can do more for our Zimbabwean musicians. I will miss seeing your face on posters and telling people "ishamwari yangu iyi," and most of all I will miss you.

Here is a clip from the last show of yours I attended about a month ago!

Rest in Peace Sister

Always Loved
